What adapter options are available?

New computers no longer have COM interfaces, only USB.

You need an adapter from RS232 to USB, e.g. our product Z501L.

Install the necessary driver for this adapter, which can be found on the enclosed CD. Follow the instructions on the screen or in the enclosed manual.

*Caution: If you have several of these adapters or your colleagues have adapters of the same type, always use the adapter with which you carried out the installation. It is best to label your adapter. These adapters have a unique identity number which is requested when they are connected to the PC. If you connect a different adapter (even if it is the same TYPE) to your PC, your PC will immediately recognize a new device and you will have to install and configure the driver again.

After installation, check which COM port the USB adapter has been configured to. Call up the system properties and then the device manager:

Open the Ports (COM and LPT) section and check which interface the USB serial port is set to. Use this setting in the PC program you are working with.

If a COM interface is set here that your program cannot work with, e.g. COM7, then double-click this line.

Click on Port settings and then on Advanced.

Select a COM port that you can select with your PC program. It does not matter if a COM port is assigned, this will be changed automatically.
