Problem
USB communication with the SECUTEST/SECULIFE ST (e.g. from IZYTRONIQ) is faulty. Error messages repeatedly occur when transferring data from/to the SECUTEST. The SECUTEST is used together with the following products and the USB connection is forwarded:
- Oracle VirtualBox: Operation of a virtual machine, forwarding of the USB connection of the SECUTEST from the host to the guest operating system
- VMWare Workstation and similar: Operation of a virtual machine, forwarding of the USB port of the SECUTEST from the host to the guest operating system
- Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions such as Citrix Virtual Desktops or Microsoft Terminal Server: Connection of a SECUTEST connected locally (on a thin or fat client) via USB to a "virtual desktop" running on a central server
- Forwarding the USB connection of a SECUTEST via computer networks using a USB device server (e.g. SEH Technology myUTN or UTNServer) (https://www.seh-technology.com/products/usb-deviceserver.html) to a Windows computer in the network.

(This FAQ entry only refers to USB forwarding in connection with the above-mentioned technologies)
Cause
The EHCI driver under Windows is poorly maintained and faulty. Unfortunately, in this particular case, the error occurs when using the SECUTEST.
Remedy Option 1
Reconfigure the emulated USB controller for connection forwarding so that a USB 3.0 (xHCI) or USB 1.1 connection (OHCI) is emulated.
If a 2.0 connection is emulated, the Windows operating system will also load the EHCI driver when the SECUTEST is connected and the problem will occur!
Remedy Option 2
Insert a FullSpeed USB isolator between the SECUTEST and the host computer to which the USB connection is established, e.g. CESYS USB isolator C028149 (
https://www.cesys.com/de/unsere-produkte/daq-devices/usb-isolator.html) (set selector switch to "FullSpeed")
Nevertheless, please ensure that the maximum length of the USB cable connection does not exceed 5m.
It works just as well to plug a (pure) USB 1.1 hub between the SECUTEST and the host computer (note: the USB hub must not be USB 2.0 or even 3.x-capable!)
Unfortunately, this affects the transmission speed. Therefore
option 1 is preferable.
Exclusion
Nevertheless, the full function of the SECUTEST with all virtualization and VDI products is not guaranteed.
