What properties must USB sticks have so that they can be used in the Secutest Pro and Secutest ST Pro?

(FAQ Nr. PG428) 24 January 2024 - 13:09 | SECUTEST/ SECULIFE SIV-Varianten | USB stick, specifications, storage capacity
Unfortunately, we have noticed that consumer USB sticks for USB 3.0 in particular only adhere to the USB specification to a limited extent. Low-cost sticks in particular contain different controllers depending on the delivery batch and therefore function differently.

Although many USB sticks are labeled as USB 3.x and USB 2.0 compatible, most manufacturers of USB stick controllers only test them under functions used by Windows and not against the complete USB specification.

This means that it is no longer guaranteed that every USB stick outside of Windows will also work on other systems.

USB sticks with a storage capacity of less than 32 GB, which are specified exclusively for USB 2.0, are likely to work better.

The following requirements also apply to USB sticks that are to be connected to the Secutest/Seculife S4 series:

The USB sticks must:
  • Be formatted according to FAT32
  • Support the older BOT protocol
  • With a maximum capacity of 32GB, usually formatted to FAT32 ex works

We also recommend updating the SECUTEST to firmware 3.4. The compatibility of the SECUTEST with some USB storage media has been improved here.

A list of tested USB sticks can be found in the operating instructions.
